Eligibility for admission: Students with a Master’s degree in social sciences and other allied subjects such as sociology, economics, history, social work, anthropology, psychology, nutrition, public administration etc. (with a minimum of 55 per cent or equivalent grades) are eligible for admission to M.Phil. programme (UGC Guidelines). About the course: It consists of two semesters of course work, followed by a dissertation during third and fourth semester. The programme has a total of 24 credits, of which, 18 credits are allocated to course work and 6 credits are allocated to field study. There are two types of courses - core courses (12 credits) and optional courses (6 credits).

Dissertation: The students choose a research topic based on their area of interest which is then confirmed by the faculty of the Centre. It could comprise review studies on a subject; it could also involve primary data collection or a combination of both. The dissertation is assessed both internally and externally.
Note: M.Phil. scholars need to obtain a minimum of 55% of marks or its equivalent grade in the UGC 7-point scale in the course work in order to be eligible to continue in the programme and submit the dissertation/thesis [UGC Guidelines].
