1. SMT. JASWANT K. KHURANA MERIT AWARD
A sum of Rs.5,00,000/- was donated in the year December 2004 by Prof. Jai Kishan Khurana, father of Prof. R. Madhubala, School of Life Sciences as an endowment for instituting the “Smt. Jaswant Kaur Khurana Merit Award”. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.15,000/- (Rupees Fifteen Thousand Only), a certificate, and a gold medal out of the interests earned on the endowment created for the purpose.
Selection Criteria:
Smt. Jaswant K. Khurana Merit Award will be awarded one time (annually) to the student obtaining the highest CGPA after the completion of M.Sc./Ph.D. theory course work.

2. SMT. KAILASH HANS BHALLA MEMORIAL AWARD
A sum of Rs. 5,00,000/- was donated in the year July 2013 by Prof. Neera Bhalla Sarin, a former Professor in the School of Life Sciences, JNU as an endowment to institute the “Smt. Kailash Hans Bhalla Memorial Award for Plant Sciences”. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only), and a certificate along with a Gold Medal out of the interests earned on the endowment created for the purpose
Selection Criteria:
Smt. Kailash Hans Bhalla Memorial Award will be awarded to M.Sc. student(s) who who has secured highest grade points in both Plant Physiology (Semester-II) and Plant Development Biology (Semseter-III) courses. Award will be given after the completion of M.Sc. (Life Sciences) Semester-III.

3. PROF. GOURI SHANKER SINGHAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
A sum of Rs. 2,00,000/- was donated in the year September 2004 by Prof. Sushila Singhal, wife of late Prof. G.S. Singhal, a former Professor of photobiology in the School of Life Sciences as an endowment for instituting the “Prof. Gauri Shankar Singhal Merit Scholarship”. The Scholarship carries a sum of Rs.1000/- per month (Rupees One Thousand Only) for a period of 10 months (two Semesters, excluding vacation period).
Selection Criteria:
Prof. Gouri Shanker Singhal Merit Scholarship Award is awarded to the M.Sc. Semester-III student who has obtained the highest CGPA at the end of Semester-II, for a period of 10 months, from the endowment amount of the accrued interest, subject to the condition that he/she is not in receipt of any other scholarship/ fellowship from any other source.

4. PROF. A. RAMESHA RAO SCHOLARSHIP & TRAVEL GRANT
A sum of Rs. 10,00,000/- was donated in January, 2010 by Prof. K. Sudha Rao, a former professor in National University of Educational Planning and Administration as an endowment to institute the “Prof. A. Ramesha Rao Scholarship & Travel Grant” to encourage more students to do research on cancer biology, a discipline in which Professor Rao had specialized and guided students during his tenure as a professor in the School of Life Sciences, JNU.
Selection Criteria:
(a) For Scholarship:
Prof. A. Ramesha Rao Scholarship will be awarded to an M.Sc. 2nd Year student doing research work in Cancer Biology based on overall performance in M.Sc. 1st year; evaluation of his/her research proposal of M.Sc. dissertation. Preference may be given to students from rural backgrounds and weaker sections, subject to the condition that he/she is not in receipt of any other scholarship/ fellowship from any other source.
Award:
The scholarship will carry a sum of Rs. 3,000/- per month (Rupees Three Thousand Only) for a period of 10 months, (two Semesters, excluding vacation period), out of the interest accrued on “Prof. A. Ramesha Rao Endowment Fund”.
(b) Travel Grant:
Prof. A. Ramesha Rao Travel Grant for 01 student pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D programme for presenting paper on Cancer Research Work in overseas symposium/conference to support economy air travel and/or registration fee once a year. Preference may be given to students from rural backgrounds and weaker sections. His or her research work accepted for paper presentation (oral – 1st preference; poster – 2nd preference) in overseas symposium/conferences organized by cancer specific societies/organizations/universities/institutes.
Award:
The Travel Grant will carry up to Rs.30,000/- (Rupees Thirty Thousand Only) once in a year for one student pursuing M.Phil./Ph.D. programme for presenting paper on Cancer Research Work in overseas symposium/conference to support economy air travel and/or registration fee.

5. PROFESSOR SIPRA GUHA MUKHERJEE BEST PH. D THESIS AWARD
A sum of Rs. 8,00,000/- was donated in January, 2024 by Prof. Chitrita “Chobi” DebRoy, an alumnus of School of Life Sciences and Prof. Tarashankar, as an endowment to institute the “Professor Sipra Guha-Mukherjee Best Ph.D. Thesis Award”. The annual interest earned on the endowment will be utilized to award the “Professor Sipra Guha-Mukherjee Best Ph.D. Thesis Award of SLS, JNU” every year. The award constitutes a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- and a certificate, be given to the awardee.
Selection Criteria:
Ph.D. students of SLS whose viva-voce examination has been successfully completed (degree awarded) on or before December 31st of the year.
Students having first author research publication(s) from the Ph.D. thesis in peer-reviewed, international journal of repute are eligible for the award.
