Jawaharlal Nehru University, established in 1969, is a vibrant campus. The university has an area of about 1000 acres and currently 7300 students are residing in 17 Hostels and studying under around 550 reputed faculties. Jawaharlal Nehru University Placement Cell (JNUPC) was established in the year 2008 and since then we have been consistent in our efforts to provide a platform for mutual interaction and exchange between our students and the promising recruiters. Amid the undulating ridges of the Aravalli Range, Jawaharlal Nehru University is a locus amoenus geographically as well as academically. Spread across an area of 1020 acres, it is aesthetically distributed into 12 Schools, 55 Centres, 6 Special Centres, Language and Science labs that are well-equipped with the latest technology, state of the art library, seminar rooms and highly advanced auditoriums. Stemming from the roots of historical ideals and modern civilization, JNU is a true amalgamation of critical thinking, interdisciplinary dialogue, and exemplary research that makes it incredibly successful in producing top class personalities in a diverse array of fields, be it bureaucrats, scientists professionals or public figures. Since its very inception, JNU has been a hallmark for providing quality education in all the majoritarian streams of knowledge. JNU currently constitutes a total of 7,793 students out of which a large section- 4,055 are enrolled in M.Phil./Ph.D. programmes, 2,140 are in Postgraduate courses, and 1,231 are in the Undergraduate courses, which comprises only of Foreign languages. JNU covers a large number of interdisciplinary fields spread among various Schools and Special Centres. A number of research projects are being carried out across a broad range of disciplines of Languages, Humanities, and Sciences, in collaboration with various institutions and organizations at both national and international level. Every year JNU consistently awards hundreds of PhD and MPhil degrees, indicating the quality and magnitude of research in the university.
JNU organizes large number of conferences, seminars and workshops. Out of a total of 2,413 Conferences organized in the year 2017-2018, JNU collaborated in 1544 National (64% of the total Conferences/Seminars) and 415 International (17% of the total Conferences/Seminars) conferences. Number of Conferences/Seminars that JNU organised at both National and International level in 2017-2018 constituted of 19% of the total Conferences/Seminars.
JNU has not only established itself as a leader in the country, but has also earned a name for itself far beyond the country by extending hands of collaboration with various international universities by signing Memorandum of Understandings (MoU’s) with them. JNU has MOUs with several universities from other countries that include USA, UK, Japan, Korea, Germany, Canada, France, etc. Being the hub of students from all over the world, JNU provides students exposure to cultures and discourses from around the world. JNU offers a range of scholarships/fellowships for the students like merit-based financial help, assistance for research fieldwork, travel bursary for attending international conferences and seminars. A number of opportunities for language students provide them the much-needed exposure for achieving high proficiency in foreign languages.
JNU offers a diversity of interdisciplinary courses that prepare students to take up jobs in various institutions and organizations ranging from think tanks, political and social agencies, academic institutions to corporate sectors and PSUs, etc. The University Placement Cell (UPC) of JNU actively works together in conducting workshops, placement camps, and trade fairs with the aim of bringing recruiters and students under one roof. Many of our alumni placed in various sectors around the globe have time and again brought laurels to the university. With regard to the Placement statistics of various schools over the last five years, the data shows that the schools specializing in Humanities like School of Social Sciences and School of International Studies have their alumni majorly placed at the highest position in Academics and R&D sectors. Some are highly well-placed in corporate sectors as well. With regard to the School of Languages, students specializing in various foreign languages including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Korean among others get majorly placed in Academics and the corporate sectors. Other schools like School of Life Sciences, School of Physical Sciences, School of Environmental Studies, School of Bio-Technology and School of Computer & Systems Sciences have a substantial percentage of their students placed in corporate sectors.
