Dr. Sudhir Kumar Present Position: Assistant Professor Biotechnology at HNB Garhwal University Email id: sudhir.1685@gmail.com
Research Interest: Structural studies of amino acid metabolic pathways of protist and bacterial pathogens.
Short Description: I have investigated the structure and function of serine acetyltransferase (SAT), a crucial enzyme which converts serine to O-acetylserine in cysteine bio-synthetic pathway. I worked on SAT from Entamoeba histolytica, where I cloned, over-expressed, purified and crystallized the native EhSAT1 as well as in complex with its substrate serine and feedback inhibitor cysteine. I also worked on two other isoforms of EhSAT and investigated their loss of cysteine inhibition using site directed mutagenesis. I also undertook cloning and crystallization of SAT from pathogenic bacteria Brucella abortus. The structure has been solved up to 2 Å resolution in native as well as in complex with Coenzyme A.
Research Interest: To work in the area of structural biology dealing with analyzing protein structures, various protein-protein, interactions computationally.
Short Description: My work involves DNA replication machinery pathway proteins, currently DNA primase and beta clamp that are very crucial. Once the structural and functional studies are done that could be helpful in understanding the biology of the organism and the various protein-protein as well as protein-DNA interactions.

Research Interest: Structural Biology
Short Description: I am looking into the structural basis of OASS activity, its regulation, inhibitor screening and the mechanism of cysteine synthase complex formation. Our objective is to discover the structural features that contribute to ligand recognition and protein-protein interaction and also to determine the underlying principles behind differential behavior of this enzyme from various sources.
