Seminar of the School of Physical Sciences ------------------------------------------------- Title: Fingerprints of Majorana Bound States in an Aharanov-Bohm Geometry Speaker: Sumathi Rao (Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad) Date: March 30, 2016 Abstract: We introduce the idea of Majorana bound states using the simple one-dimensional Kitaev model as an example. We explain how Majorana modes obey non-abelian statistics. We then discuss the problem of detecting an edge Majorana mode experimentally and distinguishing it from other spurious Andreev bound states. Finally, we discuss our proposal to detect Majorana bound states using an Aharanov-Bohm ring.
