Set in the wilderness of 17th century Québec (known as New France then), the movie explores the complex relationship between the Native People, the missionaries trying to convert them to Christianity and young settlers attracted by their way of life. Won the Genie Award for Best Motion Picture (1991).
<strong>3:30 PM : MON ONCLE ANTOINE (MY UNCLE ANTOINE)</strong>
Deemed as the best Canadian film ever made, this coming of age movie highlights the changing nature of Québec society and the power relationship between Anglophones and Francophones in the 1940s through the life of a young boy and his family. Won the Award for Best Feature at Chicago International Film Festival (1971).

Bringing us to today`s multiethnic Montréal, this movie portrays the adaptation to Québec culture of an Algerian refugee working as a replacement teacher in a primary school where his disturbed past becomes an asset in his relation with traumatized children. Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars (2012).
