Abstract: The proposed research explores the relationship between education and the indigenous Santal community of Bangladesh. In many postcolonial countries, education systems are designed to serve the interests of the dominant ethnic group, neglecting the needs of indigenous communities. The study is examining their educational experiences, challenges and discusses how the socio-spatial inequalities may compound their vulnerabilities and thereby opportunities for schooling. It is investigating the social, cultural, economic, and political factors associated with educational exclusion and the role of curriculum and education policies promote inclusion. This is an ongoing study that is conducting an in-depth case study of a select Santal community drawing from a range of data sources to provide a rich description of their experiences.
