Dr. Rochelle Pinto was faculty member at the Department of English, University of Delhi and the Centre for the Study of Culture and Society, Bangalore. She has been Fellow at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi and at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi, and Visiting Lecturer of the Instituto de Investigação Interdisciplinar, University of Coimbra. Her publications include Between Empires: Print and Politics in Goa (Oxford University Press, 2007), and several papers on the politics of print and writing in the construction of Indian modernity, the ‘colonial novel’, race and anthropometry in the Indian Ocean region, and the nature of archives in India. Her recent research has focused on concepts and histories of cultivation and land ownership under Portuguese colonialism, and a comparative understanding of colonial experience in Goa and Latin America. She is currently working on Translation as Reform, an edited anthology on discourses of translation in Konkani.
