Abstract: In this talk I will discuss results for kinetics of vapor-solid transitions (the solid phase having only quasi-long-range order) from molecular dynamics simulations of a single component Lennard-Jones system in space dimension d=2. Having been quenched from high temperature to the vapor-solid coexistence region, the system evolves via formation and growth of fractal domains of the solid phase. For very low overall density, the morphology consists of isolated fractal clusters which exhibit ballistic motion in the vapor background and grow via sticky collisions among them, the average mass following power-law with time. The exponent of the power-law varies continuously with the quench depth, due to change in fractality. These molecular dynamics simulation results are understood via appropriate theoretical argument.
