Abstract: I will begin with the review of ramification subgroups of the Galois groupof a local field. Using that, I will define the notions of the depth of a Galois representation and the depth of a Galois cocycle. I will describe how depth changes under natural functors such as induction and Shapiro's lemma. I will then explain local Langlands correspondence for tori and the failure of depth preservation in that in the wildly ramified case.
